A new exhibition has opened at Orkney Museum in Kirkwall which makes for a\u00a0rich new addition to the history of Scottish\u00a0children’s literature\u00a0 –\u00a0\u00a0 and to the role of children themselves as writers and readers.<\/p>\n
In the 1860s, three young Orcadian girls\u00a0 –\u00a0\u00a0 Maria and\u00a0Clara, and their cousin, Isabella\u00a0 –\u00a0 created their own library.\u00a0Held by Orkney Library and Archives, this\u00a0extraordinary collection of short stories, poems, plays, and fairy tales\u00a0 –\u00a0\u00a0which the children\u00a0astutely named\u00a0 ‘The Minervian Library’!\u00a0 –\u00a0 can now be seen.<\/p>\n
