Upcoming conferences in 2014

Two upcoming conferences of prime interest in the science-religion dialogue:

1. ESSSAT, the European Society for the Study of Science and Theology, will have its next conference April 30 – May 4 2014 in Assisi, Italy. The theme is “Do Emotions Shape the World?” Alongside five major plenary speakers, there is room for many papers in parallel sessions. A great opportunity for graduate students but alsot for more establlished scholars to present and discuss ideas. ESSSAT also has two prizes, the ESSSAT Research Prize (deadline also October 31st; often awarded for PhD dissertations) and the ESSSAT Student Prize (deadline January 15); more information on the same website.

2. IRAS, the Institute on Religion in an Age of Science, was founded in 1954. It will have its 60th anniversary conference August 2-August 9, 2014, on Star Island, a small island in the Atlantic Ocean, north of Boston. The theme is “The Future of Science and of Religion in a Globalizing World”. Thus, it will seek to assess the current state of the field and chart possible future directions.
