Aidan McGlynn: How Pornography Works: Pornography as Undermining Propaganda, and Freedom of Speech

This month’s podcast comes from Dr Aidan McGlynn, who discusses a paper he recently presented called ‘How pornography works: Pornography as undermining propaganda.’ Aidan is a lecturer in philosophy in the school of PPLS and has worked on a wide range of philosophical topics.

His previous focus has mostly been on issues in epistemology to do with knowledge, belief, justification and the various issues in the philosophy of language and the mind. In the last couple of years Aidan has turned his attention to more socially and politically charged topics within philosophy, including pornography. His paper draws on work from Rae Langton, Catharine MacKinnon and Susan Brownmiller together with Jason Stanley’s work on propaganda, and offers fresh insight into this highly controversial topic.
