I'm Sharon Vincent, a research fellow at CLiCP. In 2010, I was given the opportunity, via a Leverhulme Fellowship, to find out about child protection in Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada. This blog captures some of the organisations, practices and policies I have come across.

I met the director and deputy director of the Australian Centre for Child Protection at the University of South Australia www.unisa.ed.au/childprotection/ The Australian Centre for Child Protection is a national research centre working to develop evidence based approaches to the prevention and treatment of maltreatment. Australia: NAPCAN Child Protection Week

I attended a child protection breakfast hosted by the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) www.napcan.org.au as part of Child Protection Week. There were presentations from Bernie Geary, the Children’s Safety Commissioner in Victoria and Robyn Miller, Lead Practitioner in the Department of Human Services. Robyn referred to a publication her department produces on examples of good practice in children’s services. This is the 2010 publication:

I attended a public lecture by Professor Marianne Berry ‘Current trends in child abuse and neglect in the United States: What might Australians learn and disregard from the evidence?’ hosted by the Australian Institute of Family Studies.
