I\u2019ve not been able to hear very much Scottish music proper that is bowed in the fashion of the older Cape Bretoners. Apparently the 19th century wreaked havoc on the &#8220;folk fiddling&#8221; in Scotland: either the Presbyterians burned your instrument or you were taught to &#8220;elevate&#8221; your playing by incorporating classical techniques. Insofar as I am aware, we do not possess a very reliable picture of the evolution of Irish fiddling either.
