Dr Nikki Kiyimba

Dr Nikki Kiyimba is Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for MSc in Therapeutic Practice for Psychological Trauma. Nikki is also a lecturer and supervisor on the DProf Counselling/Psychological Trauma. She has been working as a Clinical Psychologist within the NHS for a number of years with a particular interest in working with clients with severe and enduring mental health problems, including personality disorder, psychosis, childhood trauma, dissociative disorders and PTSD. Nikki’s main interest is in qualitative research, particularly using discursive approaches to investigate therapeutic interactions.

New book chapter by Prof. Robert Stolorow

Stolorow, R. D. (2018). Emotional disturbance, trauma, and authenticity: A phenomenological-contextualist psychoanalytic perspective. In Existential Medicine: Essays on Health and Illness, ed. K. Aho. London, UK: Rowman and Littlefield International, pp. 17-25.

The chapter offers a radicalization of phenomenological psychopathology and a critique of psychiatric diagnoses as manifestations of what Robert Stolorow calls “the illusion of metaphysical essences.” He claims that there are no psychiatric entities, only traumatizing contexts.

Dr Fernanda Carra-Salsberg

Fernanda Carra-Salsberg has been a postsecondary foreign language educator for the past fifteen years. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, her interest in language, culture, migration and identity formations stems from her repeated relocations as a child and an adolescent migrant, and from experiences as a foreign-language pedagogue. She has taught English as a Second language and Spanish. Carra-Salsberg is currently teaching Spanish Grammar to Heritage and Second language learners at York University, Ontario, Canada. Carra-Salsberg has obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honours in Spanish Language, Literature and Linguistics at York University, a Bachelor of Education Degree in Second Language Acquisition and History at OISE UT, and a Master of Arts Degree in Spanish Language and Ibero-American Literature at the University of Toronto.

Most recently, Carra-Salsberg has completed an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Degree at the Faculty of Education, York University. Carra-Salsberg resides in the Greater Toronto area (Ontario, Canada) with her spouse and two daughters.
